Dinner review 2012

Our dinners have a simple formula. No awards, just networking, a decent meal, a few drinks, an amusing speaker and leave the rest to those attending for they always bring a lively chemistry with them.

This year was no exception and as I unwittingly caused my toastmaster, the excellent Tony Rance, some additional problems keeping a surprise presentation a secret until the appropriate moment, the fact that the evening quickly developed a momentum of its own was a relief.

Entertainment was provided by our magician, Michael Gee, with his repertoire of eye-deceiving acts and the speaker, Paddy Lennox, rounded off the evening with an amusing delivery. Not bad for an economics graduate! I save the surprise until last as did several of our friends organised by Jonathan Wooller.

The dinner celebrated edition 200 of Business Money and to mark the event this lovely bunch had contributed to a magnificent painting of Businessmoney Judi, the mare we bred and who has, so far, won three races for us, trained by David Pipe.

I was taken completely by surprise. Judi’s portrait now hangs in our drawing room to remind me how lucky I am. Editor
