The eighth Great Northern Business Money Commercial Finance Dinner
Midland Hotel,
Manchester - 25 September 2008
The eighth Great
Northern Business Money Commercial Finance Dinner was, like every
one before it, bigger than the last one.
Kicking off with the usual split of guests, some in the bars, some
in the champagne reception but all were clearly determined to
thoroughly enjoy themselves. And they did!
We reminded all as they sat down that there would be a raffle in aid
of Hilary Craft’s Gene Machine and leukaemia research efforts,
something going up a gear this year as a doctor has been employed,
dedicated to the research effort, for three years. The raffle raised
£3,300 and we have published a letter of thanks from Hilary.
A feature of these dinners is ever the atmosphere and this year was
no different, a healthy buzz persisted all evening though, as ever
in Manchester, there was a courteous silence during the speeches,
broken only
by hearty laughter for Doctor Kevin Jones who delivered a hilarious
account of life in medicine.
Celebrations continued until the wee small hours, I bottled out at
around 2.00am as I had to catch the red-eye back to Exeter,
accompanied by the subscription director and Adam Tyler of NACFB.
Portacabin city it may be but Exeter airport is small, efficient,
the luggage makes it to the arrivals hall at the same time you do,
and back up the A30 to the office, an hour away.
