The Eighth Great
Northern Business Money Commercial Finance Dinner
Midland Hotel,
Manchester - 24 September 2009
With 357 attending our dinner once again, we surpassed last year’s
attendance numbers.
The mood, as ever in this great city, was upbeat
and using the huge and impressive entrance area of the Midland hotel
for the champagne reception not only added something to the
occasion, it also gave everyone an opportunity to circulate with
more ease.
Following a brief, but pointed, speech from Bob
Lefroy reminding the gathering that only two of the UK major
financial institutions had buckled under recessionary pressures and
that politicians, and particularly heads of regulatory bodies that
had let everyone down, should stop knocking one of our major
industries and would be better employed reflecting the spirit shown
by those at the dinner.
Ian Irving treated us to half an hour of
off-beat, but wholesome, humour and Hilary Craft’s raffle in support
of her heroic efforts raising money to beat Leukaemia raised £3,800
from the generous attendees.
Book next year’s date now, 16 September 2010. Can
we outdo the previous event yet again?
