The
seventh
Great Southern Business Money Commercial Finance Dinner
Millennium Gloucester;
Kensington. -
21 February 2008
On 21 February 2008 Business Money held its
Seventh Annual Great Southern Commercial Finance Dinner held at a
new venue, the Millennium Gloucester; Kensington.
For the first time in many years the Business
Money team was out in force meeting the, close to, 400 attendees.
The evening commenced, with pre dinner drinks in the splendid
Millennium Gloucester conservatory.
The Champagne flowed, friends and colleagues gathered, the air
filled with the resonance of infectious repartee. A venue with palm
trees in London, and in the middle of February, was all that was
needed to get things moving. Magician, Michael Gee, worked his way
around the room, bamboozling all those hooked by his magic.
Tony Rance, our excellent toastmaster called time on the reception
proceedings and, en masse, the participants descended to the Orchard
Suite.
With all seated, Bob Lefroy made everyone welcome and Ian Byers,
from Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance gave a brief introduction to the
night’s charity raffle held in aid of the Lord’s Taverners.
With the introductions complete, the feasting commenced. The
delicious three course meal was served with the efficiency and speed
of a well oiled machine. Our thanks go to the waiting staff for
their efforts on the night, not forgetting of course the kitchen
staff.
And so to the speeches and the entertainment.
Bob made the formal address. This was followed by guest speaker,
John Simonett, with his humour, amazing memory feats and sharp
observational eye. The audience were captivated; a man able to
recall the names, arranged by table, of all those attending in so
short a space of time, whilst informing and beguiling us with his
magical tricks is no mean feat.
Ian Byers and his three assistants administered the raffle that,
raised close to £4000 on the night. Thank you all for your
generosity.
A night of entertainment, interspersed with the all important
networking activities, was rounded off at the hotel bar. Sophie
Grove, yet again you managed to out-last the most hardened night
hawks and still parade around Hyde Park atop a horse in the morning
along with the subscription director and thanks to Gail Smallpage
for arranging it all.
Ben Lefroy, sporting a beard, took the late late shift, ensuring
that the few survivors at the bar had company.
A tremendous evening seemed had by all. We at Business Money would
like to thank you for all the e-mails and letters. If you would like
to view the photographs taken on the night please go to: http://www.abrackenbury.com/BM/.
Please set aside 19 February 2009 in your diaries for next years
dinner at the Millennium Gloucester.
