The Great Central Business Money
Commercial Finance Dinner
The Britannia Hotel, Birmingham - 15
June 2005
Following the successful
Business Money Small Business Factors
conference on
the same day, most of the participants together with much of the Birmingham professional community donned evening dress and headed to the dining room for our first Birmingham dinner.
The fabric of the hotel looked in need of much attention but the staff, the food and the service were just great. Nothing was too much trouble, service was fast and cheerful, the food good.
Speeches were kept to a minimum, the world of commercial finance is such a gregarious assembly that the impatience to be up circulating, talking to old friends and making new ones is palpable.
I offered a few words of introduction and gave my thanks to Sophie Grove, who had made it all happen, and I then relinquished the microphone to Rod Woodward.
A young comedian by our usual standards, Rod’s rapid fire, risqué but not objectionable, routine soon had us all laughing heartily as one or two photographs will demonstrate.
Rod sat down to a burst of applause and the formal part of the evening came to an end.
The partying continued with a hard core, several of the usual suspects were to be found here, carousing until 6.00am.
