The 2004 NACFB AGM and Dinner

17 November 2004

The 2004 AGM of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers took place at Earls Court on 17 November. For the first time there were more candidates for the board than spaces and the successful ones were:

Stuart Barton – Independent Banking and Finance Consultants

Alan Brown – Tower York Financial Services Ltd

Stefan Erentraut – MVM Vehicle Contracts

Mark Flower – The Finance Connection

Kevin Jones – Omega Commercial Finance

PJ Murray – Murray & Co (Business Finance) Ltd

Paul Thompson – Acorn Commercial Finance Ltd

Ray Wells – Chenalfame

Stuart Gray – Bentley Jennison (president)

It has not been a year lacking in substantial elements of challenge for the chief executive and board to face but, mindful that the good name of the association is everything in the eyes of the sponsors, the AGM was conducted in a manner befitting the occasion.

The dinner at the Natural History Museum was a huge success. Safety considerations had dropped the numbers by 100 after the crush of last year, but a good time was had by all. Giles Brandreth was an exceptionally funny and attentive speaker who cooperated fully in joining in the spirit of the awards. The winners were:

Business Bank of the Year – For the provision of a well-balanced business banking service that matches the SME’s requirements for costs, efficiency, managerial contact and quality of service: NatWest Bank Commercial Mortgage Provider of the Year – For the development and marketing of new and competitive products and for excelling service commitments: Bank of Scotland

Lessor of the Year – In this volatile sector, where change seems to be the order of the day, we are looking for a lender that has provided consistent support, guidance innovation and quality of service to both customers and brokers: Bibby Asset Finance

Factor and Invoice Discounter of the Year – For going the extra mile with highly competitive or niche products and for providing excellent service: Cattles

Buy-to-let Lender of the Year – For going the extra mile with highly competitive or niche products and for providing excellent service: Paragon Mortgages

Specialist Lender of the Year – This award is open to entrants from all sectors of the industry and nominations should be for companies which have offered a unique product or outstanding service within the last 12 months: Commercial First

Lifetime Achievement Award – It gave me great pleasure, as last year’s winner, to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Leslie Bland in a richly deserved tribute to this pioneer in invoice finance.
