European credit manager

Job description:

Duties include:
Underwrite individual transactions submitted by the various European country risk teams that are within own approval authority limits and make recommendations for deals that need next level up approval
Structure proposals so that the various deal risks are mitigated (asset, legal, risk)
Work with the country risk teams and other functions (pricing, legal, asset, tax) to prepare credit proposals for large single country or pan-European transactions that requires senior management approval at a European or global level
Be the risk lead, with the European key account team and legal to ensure that pan-European relationship are correctly structured, to mitigate against potential deal and credit risks. Participate in customer visits and negotiations where required
Provide risk input and guidance in the development of new business programmes and product development
Lead or/and participate in country risk audits and report on findings to the local leadership team and European chief risk officer. Work with country risk teams to monitor and ensure closure of actions that have subsequently been agreed
Lead initiatives to drive improvements in the credit review and approval processes
Review larger exposure watch list customers periodically with the local risk teams to ensure that the appropriate actions are in place to manage down exposure and risk
Develop and provide risk and policy training to the local risk teams and other functions such as the commercial teams on an ad-hoc basis
Assist in the risk aspects of European and in country due diligence, acquisitions, new collateral and other new opportunities.

Essential skills:

Suitable applicants will have relevant operational credit experience, preferably in a management capacity. Be of graduate level education /qualification, preferably ACIB Qualified or similar financial/credit qualification. Capable of managing a sizeable underwriting authority, circa $3-5m with experience of deal structuring and face to face customer negotiations. Previous experience of leading and managing a credit team an advantage. Team player with the ability to interact well in a fast-paced multi-cultural environment. Competent in investigation, analysis and interpretation of various types of financial and non financial information (across multiple European countries) as well as the use of modern analysis tools and research medium. Strong analytical, presentation and communication skills (verbal and written) are essential as is the ability to work to tight deadlines. The ability to interface with all functions in a multi-cultural environment.
