How the pandemic will change business practices forever
It is no understatement to say that the coronavirus has been the most significant experience of our lives. It has made its mark on society in ways that we wouldn’t have fathomed. And while there will be some adjustment to the new normal, certain aspects of life will return to the way they were when the pandemic ends. But what does this mean for small business owners? How is the pandemic changing business practices forever?
Homes become “work-ready”
While commuting may not necessarily be a thing of the past, it is now more important than ever for business owners to have an ideal space to do their work. Video meetings have shot up considerably and while this has thrown a considerable spanner into the works, especially as far as internet connections are concerned, soon we will see a great reduction in commuting. In fact, we already have. As such this may result in entrepreneurs choosing different types of ground transportation to make the travel experience more comfortable. Entrepreneurs may have found the experience of travelling on public transport aggravating at the best of times, and now it can be an anxiety-inducing one. This is where business owners are going to make their homes work-ready but also utilise better transport methods.
The office will operate differently
While many employees believe that the workplace is firmly on its way out, this is not necessarily the whole truth. In fact, while a typical corporate office will operate differently it is not a complete replacement just yet. Offices can be inhibiting to productivity. And until there is a vaccine, offices will serve the purpose for socialising, interaction, and community with the correct social distancing measures. We will see offices become spaces designed to promote community engagement. It will be used for the benefit of getting talent into one space. As such, the work environment will be a more creative one.
The death of the tie
Workplace attire is nearly a thing of the past. Employees have got dressed up for work prior to the pandemic and even employees that have worked from home for the last 6 months have discovered what has made them work better in terms of comfort. This means that high heels have gone, almost forever. And while some consulting firms and organisations have already incorporated a “dress for your day” policy, when you are not meeting with other professionals you can dress as you want if you are going to the office.
E-learning front and centre
Upskilling is crucial for any organisation to make a distinct advantage but as the pandemic takes hold on universities, it has highlighted how online learning will be a key aspect of any business’ curriculum. E-learning was crucial, but now it is far more important for the benefit of any employee’s development.
Businesses have had to adapt in light of the pandemic and now as companies are making significant switches for the long run, a lot of these components will become part of the new normal.
