Many of us today have experienced Brexit, COVID-19 and economic recessions throughout our adult lives, and that’s meant that uncertainty has become the new norm. It can be incredibly challenging to find your way with your career and finances when the ground beneath our feet feels like it’s constantly shifting, and so many of us have been left feeling unsure about what the future holds. Whether it’s political turmoil, global pandemics, or economic problems (such as the Russia/ Ukraine war) , it seems like there’s always something throwing us off course. But amidst all this chaos, there’s one thing we can rely on to keep us steady, and that’s our skills. Here are some skills that are well worth embracing and working on to give yourself the best chance in an uncertain world.
Adaptability
Being able to embrace change is key. When new technologies are forever replacing old ones and work environments are consistently changing, being adaptable is non negotiable. Those who can quickly adapt to new situations are better equipped to thrive in today’s fast paced world. To learn adaptability, start by embracing any changes that come about in your personal and professional life and staying open minded. Be curious and continuously seek to learn new things. You can practice staying flexible in your approach to situations and be willing to adjust your plans as needed- seek feedback from others and reflect on your experiences to improve your adaptability over time.
Digital literacy
Digital literacy is a must have skill in the modern world. This includes things from basic computer skills to coding and data analysis-being digitally savvy really does open doors to endless opportunities. When it comes to tech, what worked yesterday might not cut it tomorrow so it’s adapt or get left behind. Companies are changing the waytat they operate, and that means they’re on the lookout for employees who can roll with the punches and keep up with the change, so be sure to work on these skills with courses and further education.
Critical thinking
Unfortunately we have information overload and fake news abound, with AI becoming more and more sophisticated and able to trick and deceive us, we need to be able to analyse, evaluate, and interpret information critically to be able to make informed decisions. Be aware when evaluating news sources, solving problems at work or navigating social media and work on your critical thinking skills so you can separate fact from fiction. PPM Method launches it’s first online course for entrepreneurs and decision makers– something well worth checking out.
Communication skills
Collaboration is key, so strong communication skills are essential and will benefit you in all areas of your life. From pitching ideas to colleagues, negotiating with clients or presenting to stakeholders, effective communication can make all the difference in getting your message across and building meaningful relationships. Work on improving your written and verbal communication skills to always be able to stand out regardless of how much the world and jobs change.
Resilience
Last but not least, resilience is a always skill worth building on in an uncertain world. This helps you to bounce back from setbacks, deal with rejection and face unexpected challenges- it’s resilience is what keeps us going when the going gets tough. This could be through mindfulness practices, self care routines or seeking support from friends and family.
