Raise a business and a family with these 3 top tips
You want to make the most out of the time that you spend with your family, but you also don’t want parenthood to restrict your creative or entrepreneurial spirit. This is why you thought running a small business alongside raising your little ones would be the perfect way to keep yourself entertained and separated from parenthood. However, this is not as simple as it may seem.
It might be that raising an up-to-date business and a young family has turned out to be absolute chaos, and quite frankly, you are not so sure if you want to continue being an entrepreneur. You might have even gotten to a point where you’re organising your products and your only thoughts are of sleep.
However, not all hope is lost. These three tips can help you get back in touch with your business and your family, without working yourself into the ground.
Think about your work-life balance
Think about your routine. Think about how much time you are actually taking for yourself that isn’t with the kids or working on your business, and if that time is less than three hours a day, not including sleep and meal times, you are going to need to shuffle some things around a bit. You also need to prioritise.
If you are lucky enough to have a spouse that does the majority of the housework, and the school run, or even cooks dinner on top of that, the amount of time you are actually spending with your kids and your business should be about a 2:1 ratio, respectively. Getting this balance right could save you a lot of time for yourself, as well as giving enough time for your business to grow and enough family time.
Think about the quality of the time you spend with the kids
Thinking about the time you spend with the kids might be beneficial. Not only the hours you spend with them, but what activities take place in those hours. Sitting down watching the TV while your kids are playing on the sofa next to you isn’t good quality time, but going out to a petting zoo, a long walk or even just on a bug hunt in your back garden are.
If you are struggling to find the money to give your children more exciting family memories, you might want to consider doing some research into what grants and benefits might be available for you that you are not taking advantage of currently.
