Small businesses share export plans with prime minister’s team
More than 20 key members of the Federation of Small Businesses have shared their export plans with the prime minister’s team at 10 Downing Street.
In a meeting yesterday, David Cameron’s team heard about the challenges, barriers and opportunities that micro, small and medium-sized businesses face around exports, and how the government could help in the future. FSB members from all over the UK shared their experiences and real-life business stories.
The latest research from the FSB shows that more small businesses than ever are looking to export goods and services. Findings from the FSB’s latest quarterly business index found that a net balance of 24% of FSB members expect exports to rise in the next three months.
FSB national chairman John Allan said: “Small firms have a major part to play if the government is to meet its challenging targets for 100,000 new exporters by 2020. The International Festival of Business, which I am proud to be an Ambassador for, should go some way to helping small businesses start their exporting journey, but it’s also important to have an opportunity to express our views directly to the 10 Downing Street team. The government needs to understand what a big step exporting is for many small firms, and what support they need to enable them to make the most of overseas opportunities.”
