Which are the stock exchanges in the United Kingdom, the British Crown Dependencies and the United Kingdom Overseas Territories?
If you are investing in the UK you already know about the London Stock Exchange – the only stock exchange in the United Kingdom – but did you also know that there are stock exchanges in some of the British Crown Dependencies and the United Kingdom Overseas Territories? At the time of writing, there is one on Gurnsey in the British Channel, one in Gibraltar, and tree in the Caribbean.
It is very easy to find an online broker and trading platform if you want to trade stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange, but if you want trade stocks listed on any of the smaller exchanges you will have fewer options because not every broker and platform offer this. You might have be make compromises and go along with a broker/platform that doesn´t offer everything you want when it comes to side-services such as copy trading, technical analysis, etcetera. For these reasons, some traders opt to have accounts with more than one broker/platform. Just because you are doing one type of trading with broker A doesn´t mean you have to do all your trading with them.
Also, before you jump into trading stocks listed at any of these smaller exchanges, be aware that liquidity tend to be much lower for stocks listed on these small exchanges compared to the super-liquid London Stock Exchange (especially the Main Market).
Stock exchanges in the United Kingdom
The only stock exchange within the United Kingdom is the London Stock Exchange. This stock exchange is located in London, the cpaital and largest city of England and the United Kingdom, and it is the main hub for investing in securities in the UK.
Stock exchanges in British Crown Dependencies
There is only one stock exchange in the British Crown Dependencies: The International Stock Exchange (TISE) in St. Peter Port in the Bailwick of Guernsey. Founded in 2013, this is a fairly new stock exchange, but it has its roots in an exchanged formed in 1998.
The British Crown Dependencies are three island territories off the coast of Great Britian: the Isle of Man, the Bailiwick of Guernsey, and the Bailiwick of Jersey. They do not form part of either the United Kingdom nor the British Overseas Territories. Instead, they are self-governing possessions of The Crown. Internationally, however, they are considered territories for which the United Kingdom is responsible.
While The International Stock Exchange (TISE) is headquartered on Guernsey, it aslo have offices on Isle of Man and Jersey. The aim of TISE is to be a responsive and innovative listing facility for international companies. Notably, TISE is located within a European time zone but outside the EU.

- Primary and secondary listings of securities issued by trading companies based in the British Ceown Dependencies.
- Securities issued by overseas trading companies.
- Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
- Specialist debt securities, including convertible bonds that use the Quoted Eurobond Exemption
- Special Purpose Acquisition Companies
- Corporate debt securities issued by extractive industries
From 1998 to late 2013, the exchange Channel Island Stock Exchange (CISX) operated in St. Peter Port. It was acquired by the newly formed Channel Islands Securities Exchange in December 2013, and all business was moved to the new exchange. In 2017, this exchange changed its name to The International Stock Exchange to reflect a recent rule change that allowed listing sponsors to be based outside the Channel Islands.
The International Stock Exchange Group Limited owns The Channel Islands Securities Exchange Authority Limited, which trade as TISEA. TISEA has been licensed to operate an investment exchange by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.
Stock exchanges in United Kingdom Overseas Territories
The United Kingdom Overseas Territories are fourteen territories that are internally self-governing but where the UK i responsible for defence and foreign relations. They do not form a part of the United Kingdom, but they do have the British monarch as their head of state.
At the time of writing, there are four stock exchanges in the UK Overseas Territories. Three of them are located in the Caribbean, while the fourth is in Gibraltar in southern Europe.

- Cayman Islands Stock Exchange, loacted in George Town, Cayman Islands
- Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE), located in Basseterre on Saint Kitts, in Saint Kitts and Nevis
