Van demand drives commercial vehicle market in November
Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association, said: “It is encouraging to see that registrations of commercial vehicles grew 4.2% in November, which represents commercial vehicle and franchised car retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s van and truck registration figures.”
Figures released today showed that growth was again fuelled by the van market, which rose 17.1% to 26,516 units in the month.
The truck market declined -49.6% following the introduction of full EU Type-Approval at the end of this October. Many dealers and truck operators have brought forward their truck registrations in a bid to remove the need for EU Type-Approval this month.
Sue said: “The most significant decline in the truck sector came from rigid vehicles between 6.0 – 16.0t – typically vehicles with additional bodywork fitted that would require the new type-approval. This sector recorded registrations of 219 units this month, compared with 1044 units in November 2013 – a massive decline of -79.0%.
“We are hopeful that the van market will remain buoyant for the remainder of 2014.”
