€500bn ppportunity for UK businesses in Germany
UK businesses need to take advantage of Germany’s infrastructure renewal, say leading audit, tax and business advisory firm, Blick Rothenberg.
Nils Schmidt-Soltau, a partner at the firm, said: “Four decades after ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet’, the award-winning TV series about English construction workers emigrating to Germany for work, Deutschland is once again a land of opportunity for British construction. This time with far better planning, tax frameworks, and cross‑border support.”
He added: “Germany has begun deploying its €500bn Special Infrastructure Investment Fund, signalling the start of one of Europe’s largest public‑investment programmes of the decade. For UK companies, from construction and engineering to digital infrastructure and institutional investors, this marks a generational opportunity to expand into or re‑enter the German market.”
Nils said: “The funding is earmarked for three distinct expenditure pots. €100bn for regions and municipalities (schools, transport, digital infrastructure), €100bn for a designated Climate & Transformation Fund and €300bn for federal infrastructure (rail, roads, hospitals, energy, digitalisation).”
He added: “The fund will be invested over a period of 12 years (2025 to 2036.) Although deployment was slow in 2025, the latest Ministry of Finance data shows €24bn has already been allocated. UK businesses could see significant acceleration in the work available to them in Germany as major projects get under way over the next few years.”
