FLA backs collaborative vision for consumer credit market reform
The speech made by Alison Walters, director of Consumer Finance at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) at Credit Week 2026, Shaping the future of the credit market – the road ahead, sets out a positive and compelling vision for how industry and the regulator can work together to build a consumer credit market that delivers for consumers and supports the UK’s growth ambitions.
The Finance & Leasing Association (FLA) looks forward to working closely with the Financial Conduct Authority on behalf of its members to develop a shared vision for what the consumer credit market should deliver over the coming years.
FLA members play a vital role in funding the real economy, providing the finance that enables consumers to make purchases, supports businesses to invest, and helps SMEs grow and create jobs.
Reforms that deliver a more proportionate, modern and effective regulatory framework will be critical to ensuring that consumers continue to have access to appropriate sources of credit, while enabling lenders to innovate and meet changing customer needs. Getting these reforms right will help create a stronger credit market that benefits consumers, businesses and the wider economy.
