Chelsea rule the €100m+ transfer market with 5 signings, as many as PSG and Real Madrid combined
Chelsea’s announcement of Morgan Rogers’ €137.3m move from Aston Villa has taken the club into a category of its own. The Blues are the first club in football history to sign five players for fees of at least €100 million.
Chelsea’s five €100m-plus signings – Kai Havertz, Romelu Lukaku, Enzo Fernández, Moisés Caicedo and Morgan Rogers – are worth a combined €587.3m. That puts them well ahead of Barcelona, who have bought three players at that level for €403m, and Real Madrid, who have also made three such signings for €349m.
Rogers’ move also lifts football’s €100m-plus transfer list to 22 deals, worth a combined €2.838bn. It strengthens the English market’s grip on the top end of transfer spending, with seven of the 22 nine-figure deals now involving an English club selling to another English club.
The seven domestic English transfers are worth a combined €876.3m. No other country has produced more than one domestic transfer at €100m-plus, underlining how different the English market has become at that level.
The selling side remains far more evenly spread. After selling Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for €137.3m, Aston Villa have joined Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle, Benfica and Bayer Leverkusen as the only five clubs in football history to sell multiple players for fees of at least €100m. Villa’s two nine-figure sales – Jack Grealish and Morgan Rogers – are worth a combined €255.3m.
