Chargebacks911 launches first-of-its-kind AI agent purchase indemnification for merchants
Chargebacks911, a global leader in dispute resolution and chargeback management, has launched a first-of-its-kind AI agent purchase indemnification solution designed to protect merchants from the emerging chargeback risks associated with agentic commerce.
The new bolt-on capability enables merchants to protect qualifying purchases made through AI agents without replacing their existing fraud prevention technology or rebuilding their payments infrastructure. Chargebacks911 identifies transactions involving AI agents and provides indemnification against qualifying chargebacks associated with those purchases, giving merchants a new layer of protection as consumers increasingly delegate purchasing decisions to AI.
Agentic commerce is moving quickly into the real-world checkout. Consumers can increasingly authorize AI agents to search for products, compare options and complete purchases on their behalf. But as that model develops, merchants face a new question: what happens when a consumer later disputes a transaction completed by an agent they authorized to act?
“Everyone is telling merchants to be afraid of AI agents but we would rather give them a reason not to be,” said Monica Eaton, founder and CEO of Chargebacks911. “Agentic commerce should be an opportunity for merchants, not another category of transaction they are expected to accept at their own risk. If the industry believes AI agent purchases create a new chargeback exposure, then merchants need protection that is built for that exposure. That is what we are launching.”

Chargebacks911’s AI agent purchase indemnification has been designed as a bolt-on solution that can operate alongside existing fraud filters and merchant payment infrastructure. This allows merchants across verticals and markets to add protection for AI agent purchases without changing the technology they already use to manage fraud.
The capability draws on Chargebacks911’s global platform, AI technology, behavioral intelligence and extensive dispute data to identify purchasing patterns and assess transactions involving AI agents. By combining transaction intelligence with Chargebacks911’s experience of post-transaction behavior and disputes, the solution is designed to determine eligible transactions and indemnify merchants against qualifying AI agent-related chargebacks.
“We have spent years looking at what happens after a transaction, not just at the moment somebody clicks buy,” said Eaton. “That matters enormously in agentic commerce because the transaction itself is only one part of the story. You need to understand behavior, authorization and what happens afterwards. When you have that depth of data, the technology can feel almost invisible. The complexity sits with us and not with the merchant.”
The launch follows Chargebacks911’s presence at Money20/20 USA 2026 in Las Vegas, where the company focused on how advanced payments technology can feel like “magic” when complexity is removed from the user experience. The same principle underpins the new indemnification capability: merchants can continue using their existing fraud prevention and payment technologies while Chargebacks911 provides an additional layer of protection against the emerging risks associated with AI-driven purchasing.
Agentic commerce has prompted growing debate across the payments industry around consumer authorisation, merchant liability and how transactions initiated by AI should be identified and authenticated. Chargebacks911 believes merchants should be able to participate in the next generation of commerce without being forced to carry an entirely new category of post-transaction risk alone.
“Merchants should be focused on selling, serving their customers and growing their businesses, not trying to become experts in every new risk that arrives with every new way to pay,” said Eaton. “That is our job. AI agents are changing how people shop, so we are changing how merchants are protected. They should not have to rip out their fraud systems or redesign checkout to participate. This bolts on to what they already have and gives them the confidence to move forward.”
