Clueless
Robert Lefroy, group editor, Business Money comments: “I have to start with a tribute to John Healey a chancellor who had the courage to resign over the ostrich-like attitude to defence displayed by his predecessor, Rachel Reeves. Further, her eat-the-seed-corn attack on the businesses of the UK, the entities that pay for everything, must mean that surely, he will be better than the last one.

“Further, he has to implement the policies of a lightweight, economically clueless, prime minister, never good enough to cut the mustard when a Labour minister, transferred out to be mayor of the fabulous city of Manchester that would have made it without him, and parachuted into number 10 with no election mandate to lead a pub league gaggle of ministers intent on repeating the disastrous policies that failed the UK in the 1970s.
“No CGT rise is good news for those investing in the UK but as the OBR put it, people are little better off than before the pandemic and it is the mood of the people that drives the economy.
“Everybody with an IQ north of 90 knows that there is too much fundamentally wrong with our allegedly democratic nation, no matter how much we are lectured that everything is OK, so could I look at the budget in fine detail?
“But against a background of a potential collapse of France and its overindebted economy, something Burnham is far too keen help pick up the tab for given a chance, and our nation where civil servants outnumber serving forces personnel at a ratio of 4/1, and where those brave souls have yet another lawyers’ job creation scheme coming after them if they have to risk their lives in combat situations, for once, to this commentator, the budget is hard to become too excited about.
“The world of Alice in Wonderland suddenly seems all too real.
“But at least John Healey, reinstated, compete with his integrity, offers a glimmer of hope”.
