Local entrepreneur secures future of historic Bristol factory with support from Allica Bank
A Bristol manufacturing business with nearly 50 years of history has been given a new lease of life after a local entrepreneur acquired the firm – backed by funding from Allica Bank.
Hocklynn Limited, a sheet metal fabricator founded in 1975, had been facing an uncertain future as its long-standing owner prepared to retire. The business, which employs a loyal team – many of whom have worked there for more than 30 years – risked being sold outside the region or closed altogether.
Will Hamilton, a Bristol-based businessman who previously built and exited a successful HR software platform in London, stepped in to purchase the company and keep it in local hands.
“When I came across the opportunity to take on a local business like Hocklynn, it really resonated with me,” said Will. “This is a business with deep roots in the local community and a loyal team that’s a part of the fabric of the business. It felt important to protect that – and also exciting to think about what’s possible for the future of business in Bristol.”
“Working with Allica was a breath of fresh air. Matt, our local relationship manager, took the time to understand the business and what I wanted to achieve. The process was clear, communication was excellent, and everything happened just as promised. Compared to other lenders I’ve dealt with, the experience stood out – and I’ve already recommended Allica to several other business owners locally.”

With Allica Bank’s support, Will plans to modernise Hocklynn’s operations, implement updated sales and marketing strategies, and position the business for long-term growth. The former owner will remain involved in a consultancy role to ensure a smooth transition.
The deal means that valuable jobs have been protected and the business’s legacy preserved within the local community.
Matt West, Hocklynn’s relationship manager at Allica Bank, said: “We’re thrilled to have supported Will in taking Hocklynn into its next chapter. It’s a great example of how experienced entrepreneurs can help traditional industries evolve and thrive. Supporting local economies and established businesses like Hocklynn is exactly what we’re passionate about.”
