Start Up Loans May data shows year on year increase in lending to UK start ups
The latest lending data from the British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme reveals an increase in lending to business start ups between May 2024 to May 2025 of more than 10%.
Start Up Loans issued 915 loans in May 2024 which rose to 1,010 loans in May 2025, an increase of 95 loans or 10.4%.
The total value lent rose from £11.37m to £12.88m over the same period – an increase of £1.51m or 13.3%.
Richard Bearman, co-chief banking officer, British Business Bank said: “We continue to see an increase in demand for loans among small businesses, which are a hugely important part of the UK economy. This is encouraging, and a positive indicator as these businesses are often a barometer for economic performance”.
