BDO welcomes new expert advisory panel for R&D tax relief
Commenting on the news that HMRC has established an expert panel to advise on R&D claims, Carrie Rutland, a tax partner at BDO said: “Prior to now, HMRC has – perhaps rightly – been criticised for its lack of sector expertise and understanding when it comes to claims for R&D tax relief.
“This expert panel brings in some much-needed expertise in life sciences, tech and advanced manufacturing. Collectively, the panel members will help to modernise the R&D regime and make it more relevant to the modern world.
“This initiative should be welcomed by those with genuine claims for R&D tax relief while at the same time weeding out some of the more spurious claims which have been a feature of the regime to date. We look forward to working closely with the panel going forward.”
