BHP invests in the future with latest trainee intake
BHP, part of Sumer Group, has welcomed 44 new accountancy trainees as it continues to invest in developing the next generation of professional talent across Yorkshire and the North. The intake reflects BHP’s long‑standing commitment to people, skills and progression, ensuring clients across the region have access to trusted advice and specialist expertise, supported by the wider strength of Sumer’s national collaborative approach.
With offices in Sheffield, Leeds, York, Chesterfield and Cleckheaton, BHP has recruited graduates, non‑graduates and placement students into roles spanning accountancy, tax, advisory and audit, and Corporate Finance. The Early Careers programme provides structured development and hands‑on experience, enabling individuals to build rewarding careers while contributing to the economic growth of the region.
Lisa Leighton, co‑managing partner at BHP, said: “We’re delighted to welcome 44 new trainees to BHP. Investing in future talent has always been central to our success, and this latest intake reflects our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for ambitious individuals to build rewarding careers. Our trainees play a vital role in supporting businesses across Yorkshire and the North, and we’re proud to help develop the next generation of professional advisors.”

Hamish Morrison, co‑managing partner at BHP, added: “As part of Sumer, we are able to offer our team access to wider opportunities, expertise and collaboration, while maintaining the supportive culture and strong local relationships that have always been at the heart of BHP. Many of our senior leaders began their careers as trainees, and we look forward to seeing this year’s cohort develop, progress and make a lasting contribution to our business and our clients.”
This year’s intake demonstrates how BHP’s regional strength contributes to Sumer’s broader ambition to combine local delivery with national scale. By investing in talent within Yorkshire and the North, BHP supports Sumer’s ability to provide consistent, high‑quality professional services across the UK while retaining the deep local insight that clients value.
