Bibby Financial Services 846 mile fundraising ride for charities crosses the finishing line
Teams at leading business funder, Bibby Financial Services, have come to the end of an 850 mile bike ride that visited each of the company’s 19 local offices around the UK in aid of three charitable causes.
The Big #BibbyBikeRide raised a total of £7,458 for Macmillan Cancer Research, Help for Heroes and Yorkshire-teenager, Jake Bairstow.
Jake was born with Cerebral Palsy and requires a life changing operation, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, to improve muscle stiffness. Jake’s mother, Shellie Bairstow, works as operations manager for BFS in Yorkshire and her colleagues jumped at the chance to help raise money for the treatment, which is not available on the NHS.
The ride began at 8:00am on 11 September at BFS’s office in Brentwood, Essex and finished on the 26 September at the funder’s Glasgow office.
More than 70 cyclists, including some of BFS’s intermediary partners, cycled in stages between the funder’s 18 regional offices.
One member of staff, IT systems leader Steve Hearn, has cycled the entire 846 miles.
Edward Winterton, UK chief executive officer, Bibby Financial Services said:
“Congratulations to all cyclists that pedalled across the UK between our offices in order to raise money for charity. It was excellent to see our offices around the country get involved in the fundraising, whether they were avid cyclists or beginners.
“Special congratulations needs to go to Steve Hearn for cycling the entire route. Pedalling the whole 846 miles is a fantastic achievement!
“This event really symbolises our contribution to the local communities we operate in, in addition to our ‘one team’ approach to everything we do.
“I’d like to offer my thanks again to all of those who have taken part, to the local companies that offered their support and to our teams across the country for making this happen.”
