Deloitte reaffirms commitment to Scottish market with three partner appointments
Deloitte in Scotland has promoted three of its people to partner across its Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices.
Hayley Strachan has advanced into the role in Aberdeen, alongside Ben Hacking in Glasgow and Joe Scott in Edinburgh.
In total, 286 people have been promoted across Deloitte’s Scottish practice this year, including eight new directors, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to talent development.
Their appointments are part of Deloitte’s nationwide round of more than 6,000 promotions June, including 48 new partners.
The three new partners all joined the firm as graduates. Hayley Strachan and Ben Hacking began their careers in the tax team, while Joe Scott has an audit and assurance background.
Strachan leads the Global Employer Services team in Scotland, having begun her career at Deloitte in 2008. She assists employers managing the demands of a globally mobile workforce, and possesses extensive advisory expertise in mobility, employment taxation, payroll and reward.
Hacking joined the firm as a graduate in 2012 and sits within the Financial Investors business. He has vast experience of working on both buy and sell side processes with private equity investors, advising on all tax matters across tax due diligence and transaction structuring engagements.
Scott’s career began in audit and assurance in Edinburgh as a graduate. Primarily, his work involves financial services firms, particularly investment managers and large private capital business. Beyond audit, he has experience in providing controls and accounting advisory services, and broader assurance work.
Deloitte has also welcomed Ross Millar back to the firm as a partner in the Edinburgh office. He previously joined the business in 2006 in the former Risk Advisory practice, where he worked for more than 12 years.
After spending several years as chief risk officer within an investment management firm, Millar rejoins Deloitte within the Strategy, Risk and Transactions Advisory team to focus on the Investment Management and Wealth sector.
Angela Mitchell, practice senior partner for Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “I’d like to extend my congratulations to all colleagues promoted across Scotland this year. Our new partner appointments reflect their expertise, commitment and leadership, and are a testament to our ongoing investment in developing talent from within.
“It is particularly encouraging that so many former graduates have secured partner roles. The advancement of so many people’s careers further emphasises the depth of talent we are proud to nurture across the business, and I look forward to what they will achieve in their new roles.

“These promotions also help to underscore our commitment not just to our people, but our role in supporting growth across the country. Deloitte continues to play its part in addressing Scotland’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. Our focus is on lending our expertise to the industries that will power the nation’s growth and careers of the future. Our reputation as a trusted advisor to the public sector is well established, as is our breadth of expertise in the financial services industry. Increasingly, we are driving complex but impactful projects in energy and industrials, as we transition to a more sustainable future.”
In the past year, Deloitte appointed Hazel Gray as the office senior partner for Aberdeen, and moved into new sector-leading office space in the city.
In Edinburgh, government and public sector expert, Lesley Smillie, took on the role of Edinburgh office senior partner, with a commitment to ensuring the firm remains a place where people are proud to work, innovate and grow.
