Famous Lyme Regis care home used for Hollywood film sold for the first time in over 30 years
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Pinhay House, a residential care home in Lyme Regis, Dorset.
Pinhay House is a residential care home registered for up to 25 elderly residents and offers dementia and respite care.
Having originally been built in 1845 , the home occupies a stunning Grade II Listed 22-bedroom mansion. The property has been extended and improved over the years and now includes a dining room, a comfortable lounge, and two acres of landscaped gardens for residents. Despite these modifications, the building retains much of its original character with numerous features including wood panelling, fireplaces, and ornate ceilings.
Pinhay House is ideally positioned on Silver Street, close to the centre of the historic seaside town of Lyme Regis and enjoys dramatic views of the beautiful Jurassic Coast.
It also has a fascinating history, having been featured in the 1980s film ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons.
After 38 years’ ownership, former owners and husband-and-wife duo, Robin and Carole Hodges, decided to sell due to retirement.
Following a confidential sales process with Eve-Angelica Apperley at Christie & Co, the home has been purchased by Rayan Care (Pinhay) Ltd.
Robin and Carole Hodges comment, “Over the past four years, Carole and I have been planning our exit from Pinhay and working hard towards our retirement. Our priority was to ensure that Pinhay continued as a much-needed care home in the locality. Finding the right person that had a similar ethos to us was very important, and when we met Nasrin, we were sure she was the right choice!”
Nasrin Joseph, managing director of Rayan Care (Pinhay) Ltd, comments, “While the home will now operate under Rayan Care (Pinhay) Ltd, the name will remain exactly the same, Pinhay House. More importantly, the warmth, care, and dedication the families expect will not change. I am delighted that the entire existing Pinhay team are staying to ensure complete continuity for the residents. Robin and Carole have poured their hearts into this community, and I am deeply honoured to take over the baton from them.”

Alongside the former leaseholders, who were our clients, there were the new leaseholders, the freeholders, their agents, solicitors and accountants, all of whom played a part in bringing the deal together. Pinhay House was sold for an undisclosed price.
