Foot Anstey appoints ex-Kingsley Napley head of tax to its Exeter office
National law firm Foot Anstey is today announcing the appointment of Matt Spencer from Kingsley Napley as partner. This hire will strengthen the firm’s support for corporate clients.

Matt joins Foot Anstey’s nationally recognised corporate practice as a tax specialist, having previously headed the tax team at Kingsley Napley. In his new role, he’ll be working with several of Foot Anstey’s teams, with a focus on the tax aspects of corporate matters (including M&A, restructuring and incentives), real estate, (across development, landlord/tenant and residential/commercial purchases) and employment, including termination payments and IR35. Before his time at Kingsley Napley, he spent nearly ten years as a solicitor at DAC Beachcroft.
This appointment follows a string of high-profile hires for Foot Anstey this year, including ex-Boohoo General Counsel Tom Kershaw, who most recently joined the retail & consumer team in the Manchester office. Foot Anstey’s partnership is growing in tandem with the firm’s national expansion as it joined forces with Belfast-based commercial law firm McKees earlier this year in its first step out of England.
Martin Hirst, managing partner at Foot Anstey, comments: “Matt’s appointment will support and enhance our already exceptional corporate and real estate practices. We’re looking forward to seeing him deploy his extensive experience to further enhance and enrich our client offering.”
Matt Spencer, newly appointed partner at Foot Anstey, comments: “I am thoroughly looking forward to working with the talented professionals across Foot Anstey and providing a comprehensive tax advisory service to the firm’s impressive client base and beyond.”
