Handelsbanken to open new Canary Wharf branch in Q1 2027
Local relationship bank Handelsbanken has announced plans to open a new branch in Canary Wharf. As part of the bank’s dedication to serving the needs of local communities throughout the United Kingdom, the seven-strong branch – which will offer personal and corporate banking, and wealth management services – will reflect the growing opportunities presented by this thriving and dynamic area of London. The Canary Wharf branch, which launches in Q1 2027, will cover Canary Wharf as well as Blackheath, Charlton, Eltham, Greenwich, Lewisham and Woolwich.
Handelsbanken, independently confirmed as the safest commercial bank in the world, is known not just for its financial strength and sustainable values, but also for its unique, fully-decentralised model. With over 120 branches across the country – from Truro to Inverness – nearly all banking decisions are made in-branch, by experts embedded in the local community who know their customers by name and fully understand their financial ambitions.
This approach has been recognised as delivering the highest possible customer satisfaction, with the bank consistently rated top for relationships and account management by the CMA’s Quality Survey every year since it began. The bank has just released its latest quarterly results, showing lending at an all-time high.
Chris Teasdale, chief branch officer, Handelsbanken, said: “We know that our unique approach and financial strength and stability are appreciated by customers, who want a genuine relationship with their bank. Our blend of personal service and strategic advice – that always focusses on the longer-term needs of the customer, and not the short term profitability of the bank – has time and again been demonstrated to work wherever we deliver it. We are delighted to be able to respond to an increasing need for our way of doing business by opening an entirely new branch to serve Londoners in Canary Wharf.”
Paul Chapman, district head for Central London, said: “We are delighted to be opening a brand new branch in such a vibrant part of London. We already support many successful and growing businesses based in the area, as well as private individuals looking for a unique banking experience, and we look forward to the branch’s full launch in March 2027. Handelsbanken remains fully committed to our branch-based relationship model, and this is proof positive that it works.”
