Lenders set out levels of borrowing from across the country
Major lenders across the UK have published details of borrowing to individuals and businesses classified by more than 9,000 postcode sectors at the end of the first quarter of 2014.
The industry-wide data has been compiled jointly by the BBA and the Council of Mortgage Lenders. Participating lenders will also publish their own figures on their websites.
BBA chief economist Richard Woolhouse said: “This data gives a close-up view of SME and personal borrowing right across Great Britain. People can use it to look up what the picture is like near them.
“When we look up and down the country, we can see a good spread of lending. That’s important for individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
“It is difficult to draw firm conclusions about demand for a number of reasons, but lenders are publishing these figures in a clear commitment to greater transparency.”
Period-on-period comparison is not available since totals for Q1 2014 exclude balances related to TSB Banking Group, which was previously reported within the Lloyds Banking Group submission.
