Luxury care development site in Surrey sold to Barchester Healthcare
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has completed on the sale of what was formerly The Old Hall care home in Send, Surrey, to Barchester Healthcare.
The Old Hall care home was previously owned by The Geoghegan Group, which purchased it as a trading care home registered for 39 service users through Christie & Co in 1997. The Group obtained planning permission to demolish the property and build a luxury care home for 60 service users. In March 2021, the business ceased trading and the site was demolished.
Christie & Co was appointed to market the site on a confidential basis and, after a targeted conversation with Barchester Healthcare – an independent care provider which runs over 260 care homes and seven registered hospitals across the UK – a sale was negotiated and agreed.
Speaking on behalf of The Geoghegan Group, director, Mr Charles Geoghegan, comments, “It was a hard decision to sell this site, but we are delighted with the result. Having thought about developing the site ourselves, we felt that it would be more beneficial for our group to concentrate on the rehab sector and build on our other businesses’ good reputation. We are sure Barchester will build a lovely home and we wish them all the best.”
Speaking on behalf of Barchester Healthcare, Land Buyer, Mr Julian Burgess, comments, “The purchase of this site demonstrates the appetite that Barchester Healthcare has for the care sector, especially in a good location such as this. We look forward to starting the development of the new care home and to work with the local community to provide a setting which will be of benefit to Surrey residents.”
Charles Phillips, director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale along with colleague Jordan Rundle, adds, “It has been a pleasure acting for our clients on the sale of The Old Hall and we are very pleased with the results obtained during the discreet marketing process. Having kept in contact with the Geoghegans since their purchase back in 1997, we were delighted to be asked to sell the site for them. There is great demand for both trading and closed care homes in Surrey from buyers eager to be located in the county. At present, there is a lack of available homes for sale in Surrey and this is fuelling demand for all opportunities.”
The Old Hall was sold for an undisclosed price.
