New website showcases plans for Sutton Town Centre
Sutton Council has announced the launch of a new website showcasing plans for the transformation of Sutton town centre.
https://suttontowncentre.sutton.gov.uk is a one-stop shop for anyone wanting to find out the latest updates about regeneration projects and plans to introduce new homes, office and co-working spaces, retail units and much more.
These projects include:
- Sutton Civic and Town Centre Regeneration – replacing the existing St Nicholas Shopping Centre with new, higher-quality shops, restaurants, bars, new council offices including a library and community hub, as well as much-needed affordable homes.
- Northern Gateway – a new building for Sutton College and council homes
- Oru Sutton – an exciting new space for co-working, wellbeing and hospitality
- Throwley Yard – a new destination for culture in the town centre
- 137 – 145 High Street – high quality retail and business space at the heart of the town centre
- Elm Grove – new homes and open spaces for existing residents and Sutton’s growing communities
The website includes artwork and sketches of what these projects will look like once completed, before and after images and details around where funding has come from.
The impact of works to regenerate the town centre is already being felt by local residents and businesses. Oru Sutton has already opened its doors for wellbeing classes, co-working and the launch of a new Sri Lankan restaurant; Throwley Yard – opening this spring – will offer residents and visitors an independent cinema, DJ school and new performance space.
Councillor David Bartolucci said: “I am excited that there is a real buzz about the changes we are starting to see in Sutton town centre.
“We’re committed to making Sutton an exciting and thriving place to live, work and study in South London.
“Along with our residents, we want our businesses to grow and succeed, and for our communities to benefit from a diverse mix of hospitality, quality housing, wellbeing offers and educational choices.”
