‘Outstanding’ Birmingham nursery sold to Kids Planet
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of George Perkins Day Nursery in Birmingham to Kids Planet.
Established in 1991, George Perkins Day Nursery is an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ setting with operating capacity for 47 children aged one to four-years. The business operates from a detached, converted residential building on the crossroads where Edgbaston meets Balsall Heath in Birmingham, with direct access into the city centre and a host of amenities.
For the last 10 years, the setting has been owned by Sarah Presswood and Jane Finnimore who have over 50 years combined experience in the industry which is clearly reflected in the brilliance of the business and its dedicated staff. They decided to sell to retire from the industry.
The nursery has been purchased by Kids Planet, one of the largest day nursery groups in the country.
Mrs Presswood comments, “After a combined 50 years at the nursery, 10 of them as the owners, Jane and I made the difficult decision to sell the business. Having built it up to be a nursery which is recognised as putting the child and family at the heart of all we do, we knew we wanted to sell it on to an organisation with a similar ethos. We are confident that the staff team, which is the core of the nursery, will continue to provide the children with the very best start in life under the direction of Kids Planet, whose ideals align very much with our own.”
CEO of Kids Planet, Clare Roberts, comments, “We are thrilled to have expanded our nursery group to 95 settings by welcoming George Perkins Day Nursery into our family of nurseries.
“The nursery has acquired an outstanding rating from Ofsted due to its excellent leadership and management as well as its inspirational class of teaching, which align perfectly with the Kids Planet ethos of exceptional quality childcare. We are really excited to work with and embrace George Perkins’ management team and wider staff, children and their families into our Group.”
Jassi Sunner, associate director – childcare & education at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “The brilliant location of George Perkins Day Nursery provides the setting with a blend of diversity, with children from families with a range of backgrounds, which is a real attraction for the parents who send their children there. Sarah and Jane have a fantastic reputation with parents but also with staff and this is reflected in the longevity of the working team at the nursery, and we wish them well with their future endeavours.
“As there are very few good Birmingham city centre nurseries that come to market, it was no surprise that George Perkins generated a range of interest from a number of different buyers. A deal was agreed with Kids Planet quickly and we are delighted to help them to continue to grow in the Midlands region. They, as well as a number of regional groups and new entrants to the sector, can see the positive future for the industry and this has resulted in multiple sales across the region.”
George Perkins Day Nursery was sold for an undisclosed price.
