Self-employed react to appointment of new secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills
IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed, has today welcomed the appointment of Sajid Javid as Secretary of State for Business.
Commenting on the appointment, Chris Bryce, chief executive, IPSE said: “IPSE would like to congratulate Sajid Javid on his appointment as business secretary. Mr Javid has consistently shown an understanding and appreciation of the value of small businesses to the UK economy and we look forward to engaging with him on behalf of the UK’s 4.5 million self-employed.
“We know Mr Javid cares passionately about improving the UK’s poor payment culture and we will actively engage with the new business secretary on the establishment of a small business conciliation service promised by the Conservative Party in its manifesto.
“The UK’s economic growth depends on the self-employed and small businesses having the right regulatory framework to thrive and we eagerly anticipate the new business secretary bringing forward an agenda that inspires confidence in the business community. One pillar of this will be conducting a root and branch review of the business rates system which currently holds back many self-employed people who frequently use work hubs.
“We look forward to strengthening our relationship and working together ensure a level playing field that enables small businesses to fully realise their economic potential.”
