Small business efficiency tips
When you run a small business, you have to be an expert in a lot of different areas. You need to be able to navigate business taxes, hire employees, raise capital, manage relationships with clients, and product development and creation. Figuring out ways to run a more efficient business will help you juggle all these things seamlessly.
Delegate more
Your business is your baby, so it can seem like a huge responsibility you can’t trust to anyone else. You feel a sense of responsibility for every aspect of your business, but realistically you can’t handle it all on your own. You need to learn to delegate.
If you have a hard time delegating, then start small. Take the time to hire employees you can have confidence in and then learn about their strengths and weaknesses. When you know your employees, you are going to be able to make assignments that will get done well and on time.
Once you understand this, you can start delegating small aspects of your business to your employees and then checking in with them to see how they are doing. Once you start to see your business flourish, you can start delegating more and more with greater ease so you can focus on other aspects of your business.
Automation
There are a lot of repetitive tasks when it comes to running a business and if you are not careful they will start to eat up all of your time. Using industrial automation controls and other ways to automate some of these processes will help free up a lot of your time. You may shy away from it because you don’t understand how it works or because there are some upfront costs.
Working with automation is going to pay itself back to you in no time at all. It frees up you and your employees to work on other things and helps cut back on user error. Things like customer online transactions and digital marketing can be easily automated.
Batching
Most people try to multitask in an attempt to be more productive. The truth of the matter is that multitasking is actually harder on your brain and slows you down because you spend time mentally switching between the tasks even if that switching seems to happen quickly.
A more productive way to work is batching. Grouping like tasks together and doing them at specific times can help you be more productive during the course of a day without feeling overworked. Things like making phone calls and checking email take up more time and distract you from other tasks more than you think.
Set aside a time or two during the day that you use for these types of communications. Make all your phone calls and emails at the same time instead of dealing with them as they come in. You will find that it is easier to focus on your other tasks and that you get more done. Turn off notifications and ringers to ensure that you can give your full attention to whatever tasks is most important in the moment.
