TLT boosts banking practice with nationally recognised debt finance hire
TLT has hired leading debt finance lawyer Roy Grist as partner in its national banking team, further strengthening the service it offers clients in this practice area. Roy will be based in TLT’s Birmingham office.
Roy joins TLT from Squire Patton Boggs, where he led the firm’s banking and finance team in Birmingham for ten years.
A nationally recognised banking lawyer, Roy has over 25 years’ experience advising lenders and borrowers on a mix of national and international corporate transactions including acquisition finance, property and development finance, asset-based finance, restructurings, and joint venture funding. Roy has expertise advising football clubs on high-profile and complex finance matters, alongside clients in the hospitality, retail and financial services sectors.
Some of Roy’s most recent experience has included advising a national bank on its sustainability linked facilities to a leading property company, advising a high-profile hotel group on financing the construction of a new hotel, and advising a global manufacturer in connection with new syndicated debt facilities to support export growth.
Beyond client work, Roy is recognised as a Leading Individual by Legal 500 and as a ranked lawyer by Chambers and Partners.
At TLT, Roy will be supporting the development of the firm’s national banking practice, as well as enhancing its offering across a number of sectors. Although Roy will be based in the Midlands, he will work with the firm’s wider national practices and sectors to develop and grow existing and new client relationships.
Commenting on his appointment, Roy said: “Many people will be aware of TLT’s growth and its unique offering in the market. The banking team is known for managing complex financing transactions and advising a wide range of clients across different sectors, as well as having recently recruited some of the top legal talent in the UK. Joining a law firm that is committed to supporting banking clients on their growth strategies was paramount to me. I’m therefore pleased to be joining TLT at an exciting time of growth and helping the firm enhance its presence nationally and regionally in Birmingham.”
Peter Carney, head of banking at TLT commented: “Roy is undoubtedly one of the most well-known and respected banking lawyers in Birmingham and will be instrumental in supporting the expansion of our practice in the region. His extensive experience which spans across many of the sectors and practice areas where we already have a national presence, particularly in real estate finance, will be invaluable to many of our clients and the continued growth of our national banking team. We are delighted to have him on board.”
